Steve was the lead guitarist and vocalist for Cindy Wilson's first solo project. Between 2002 and 2004, The Cindy Wilson Band wrote songs and played clubs, festivals and television dates around the Southeast.
The songs were primarily based on keyboardist Paul Scales' instrumental tracks combined with Cindy's unique lyric and melodic sense. When the basics were written, the song was thrown into the room and the band brought the tunes to life. The included Steve on guitar and vocals; Trey Hollingsworth on bass; Diana Hoskins on drums; Paul Scales on keyboards and harmonicas; Keith Bennett (Cindy's husband) on keyboards; and Cindy.
The Cindy Wilson Band's first gig was a live national broadcast of a singer/songwriter show -- Turner South's Live From Music Midtown. It was Cindy's first live performance without the B52s. Cindy, Paul and Steve shared the stage with Don McLean, Mike Mills, Edwin McCain and received the thrill of a lifetime performing onstage with June Carter Cash playing "May The Circle Be Unbroken".
Later they played gigs that included the Atlanta Dogwood Festival; Athfest; the Park Tavern for 99X; The Douglass Theater for the Georgia Music Hall of Fame; club dates at Eddie's Attic and The Echo Lounge; and made a couple of appearances on Atlanta television shows.
